Research Vision & Goal
바다와 생물 간의 상호작용에 대한 "생태적 현상(해양생태계의 구조와 기능)"을 규명하여 "해양생태계서비스(바다생태계가 인간에게 제공하는 사회경제적 가치)"를 제고하고자 함

연구철학
Research Perspectives
- 수년 이상 장기간의 관찰(관측)을 통해 기초적 해양생태현상을 발견하고 그 현상의 규칙성과 불규칙성을 판별하는 현장연구에 중점
- 생태/생리실험(메조코즘) 등의 생물모의실험을 통해 현장에서 관찰된 생태현상의 메커니즘을 규명하는 순수과학적 기초연구를 지향
- 환경변화→유전자/세포수준반응→개체반응→개체군변동→군집변동→생태계변화의 인과과정 규명을 통한 사회경제적 생태시스템 고찰
- 해양생태계의 구조적 다양성과 기능적 메커니즘의 종합적인 규명을 바탕으로 해양생태계서비스의 정성 및 정량적인 해석에 역점
- Addressing the fundamental ecological phenomenon in the ocean based on the long-term observation and measurement in the field
- Understanding the mechanism of ecological phenomenon through various biological and physiological experiments in the laboratory
- Characterizing the socio-ecological system by stepwise understanding of the environmental changes followed by the varying biological responses
- Highlighting the humankind benefits in a multitude of ways from marine ecosystem by measurement of its socio-economic values in qualitative and quantitative manner
